Lunch at Lao Beijing (Old Beijing, literal translation)

Today, we managed to get to Plaza Singapura early enough to get a car park space. But at 11:30am, the car park spaces were already filling up fast. The girls' father went to collect my father's handphone while we girls did some window shopping, lol. Serious, didn't buy anything except for my box of Christmas cards. :)

Decided to have lunch at Plaza Singapura instead of going to Seah Street Deli, Raffles Hotel as originally planned. We haven't had Beijing food for a long time so we went to Lao Beijing.

We ordered the Tasting Menu A ($68++ for 2 persons) which included the following:
Sichuan Style Fish Maw Soup - but as we don't take spicy food, the kitchen cooked the soup in a separate pot for us. We didn't mind that the soup came a bit later than the other dishes for such good service. The soup was rich in flavour and there were fish maw in it. It tasted even better with black vinegar. Yummy. The girls preferred this soup to the other soup that we ordered for them. (See below.)

Beijing Style Roasted Duck - the skin was really crispy. The girls enjoyed wrapping up the duck in the egg skin and eating their own handiwork.

Chairman Mao's Favourite Braised Pork - the pork was a little tough but still passable.

Braised Spinach Bean Curd - this was really delicious and good. The bean curd was coated with egg and fried. The only downside with this dish was its small portion. :( Not enough to share with the girls.

Steamed Juicy Meat Buns - this goes really well with vinegar! It is an art eating this meat bun with the soup in the bun. You mustn't waste a drop of the soup for it is the essence of the meat bun. I usually eat it in one gulp, haha. Drooling already, just thinking about it. Lol. :P

For dessert, we changed it to Deep Fried Red Bean Pancake. It is very crispy and fragrant. The pancake went really well with my Eight Treasures Tea ($3). The tea has wolfberries, dried winter melon, ginseng, red dates, raisins, dried longan, chamomile and ginger pieces in it. I was also squeezing the red bean paste out of my pancake pieces so that they won't be too sweet, lol. See, I do stick to my words of controlling myself today about the sugar intake, hahaha. :P

In addition, we ordered an Appetising Cucumber as starter, a Spinach Noodles with Assorted Seafood ($14) and Steamed Minced Pigeon Soup ($5) for the girls, in case the set menu was not enough for all of us.

The noodle was hand-made and really nice. There was not a lot of seasoning but I rather liked it like this, not salty at all. I could taste the spinach in the noodles and the taste of sea in the seafood (prawns, scallops, squids)!

The minced pigeon soup was not bad at all. In the minced pigeon meat, shredded dried scallop and diced water chestnut were added to give it more flavour. The soup was rich without being too cloying. Too bad, the girls didn't like this very much. Oh well, we parents had to finish it, lol.

It was a delectable lunch. I think all of us enjoyed it very much.

The pork was tough ... and red. Just like how the Chairman liked it. Colin

No lah, I don't look like my mom lah! Lol. She's the beauty in the family, lol. Unfortunately, I take after my father in terms of looks, lol.

How have you been? Sorry, been busy at work, handing over for old project and starting a new project, today actually. And stressing about the stupid enbloc at my estate... :(
