Day 5 in Taipei 2013 (VII) - Jiufen (九份)

By 5pm, we arrived at our final destination, Jiufen (九份). We bade good-bye to our taxi driver, Mr Cai and we checked in into our Minsu (Home Stay) accommodation at Shui Ying Lan Tian (水映藍天民宿). The minsu is slightly off the beaten track but it is a mere 5 minutes walk to the Jiufen Old Street. We stayed at 藍天4人海景套房. A nice and cosy room for four. :)

Besides the usual coffee and tea, the minsu provided fruit tea and floral tea too :)

We rested and watched TV while waiting for my cousin to meet us at 7pm for dinner. We didn't do any shopping at the Jiufen Old Street (基山街) because most, if not all the shops were closed by 7pm. We do our souvenir shopping tomorrow. We went straight for dinner. On the way to dinner and back from dinner (up and down Shuqi Road 豎崎路), I took some photos along the way.
Shuqi Road (豎崎路) - a steep flight of 365 steps that really work your leg and cardio muscles
The various tea houses and restaurants along Shuqi Road (豎崎路)
Shenping Theatre (昇平戲院)
View of the bay from Shuqi Road (豎崎路)
Taken at The Amei Teahouse (阿妹茶樓) (apparently where Hayao Miyazaki got his inspiration for Spirited Away)

Four dishes
Delicious bamboo shoot and meatball soup
The restaurant where we had dinner along Shuqi Road (豎崎路)
After dinner, we went back to our minsu where we enjoyed the desserts that my cousin bought for us. It was really sweet of her.
The egg pudding (the container is really an eggshell) is really delicious! Wonder if Singapore has something like that.
It had been a really packed day of sight-seeing for us. The rest of our time in Taipei would definitely be much less rushed. Tomorrow, we will be walking around Jiufen (九份)at a much more leisurely pace. :)
