making it easier to keep in touch with family and friends

Marieann's prelims and PSLE are coming soon...
Marieann could have done more revision during the holidays but she hardly did any work. Not exaggerating. Her father is not working a 9-5 job and is home in the afternoons but he is of no help as he couldn't be bothered about the girls' studies. He is more interested in watching the shows he downloaded and playing computer games. He has openly said that it is not his responsibility to monitor his daughters' studies. I feel like a single parent.

A Storm is Brewing

Dark rain clouds are amassing overhead. Wind speed is picking up. Sweet, sharp odour of ozone is in the air. A storm is definitely brewing.

Saturday, 28 June 2014

I have been able to catch the sunset on different days. Each sunset is so unique and beautiful. :) See for yourselves. :)

Prep for New School Term

In a few more days, the new school term will begin. My mother brought the girls for a hair cut so that they will look neat, tidy and ready for school. The girls seem to be ready for their return to school.

Have been a long time since I slept by 11pm. Have been getting my much needed sleep and rest. It felt good.

Too slow for my comfort...

Low BP

I was finally "well" enough to visit the doctor's on my own without having to trouble anyone to send me to the doctor's. I was diagnosed with having the flu and I also had very low blood pressure, the first time that I have had such low blood pressure, 95/60. No wonder, I almost blacked out twice on Saturday and have been feeling light-headed and giddy. :(
I was told to REST, no more late nights, and to eat regularly.

Sick at AGM

It is certainly no fun attending an AGM while being sick. I was cold, miserable and mentally zonked out for the 3 hours of my estate's AGM. However, as I was the secretary of the last management council, I couldn't skip attending it. I managed to last through the whole thing and got re-elected as a member in the next management council. However, I also paid the price for not resting when I should be because my fever came back, and my coughing got worse. :(

Feeling Off

Feeling off after a morning meeting at MOE. Hoping it is just stress.

Water Heater

It has been almost a week since the water heater in my bathroom went bonkers. :( Every time we switched on the water heater, the electricity in the entire apartment tripped. It is either the switch or the water heater that is faulty. Contacted someone but they haven't had the time to come take a look. My girls and I have been taking our showers in my parents'  bathroom. But somehow it is just not the same as my own bathroom.

New Read

Just discovered a new series of books to read. It's the Event Group Adventure series by David Goleman. It has the mystery, the action, the adventure, the mystics that I enjoy. :) Just started on the first book, Event and I haven't been able to put it down. :)

Read This

Nothing better than to see my favourite author, James Rollins' books with a  "READ THIS"! :)
Seen at the bookshop, Changi International Airport.

Sunny Moth

Saw this little beauty resting on the floor along the corridor of my work place when I went to the canteen for lunch. It was still there at the same spot when I returned from lunch.
Managed to snap its photo before it flew away into the sun.

Another Beautiful Sunset

What can I say? Yet again another beautiful sunset. :)

Saturday, 14 June 2014

I woke up to see a sky darkened with black thick rain clouds. Moments later after I took the photos, the wind started blowing and the storm hit us.
It has been very humid and hot the past few days. This storm would bring some respite from the heat, I hope.

Full Moon + Friday 13th = RARE

Today is Friday the 13th and it also has a full moon which is known as the honey/ mead/ strawberry/ rose moon. It is a rare sight and event. The last time a full moon occurred on a Friday the 13th was in 2000. The next time we have a full moon on Friday the 13th will be in October 2049. (Interestingly, Friday the 13th came about because of October 13 1307 where scores of Templar Knights were killed by King Philip IV.)
In the presence of tonight's full moon, I gave a quick thank to the Mother Goddess. :)
The full moon is peeking out from behind the clouds (green laser beams from MBS, not aliens lol)

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil starts on 12 June and ends on 13 July. For a whole month, I think I would be hearing nothing but discussions about football lol. I will be hearing lots of loud cheers, yells, and shouts from various households in my estate when the football matches are on!
Wonder which team(s) my brother and his family is/ are supporting. GOOD LUCK to your team(s).

Childhood Memories: Morinaga Milk Candy

Here is another one of my childhood memories: Morinaga Milk Candy. I used to have this when I went back to Taiwan annually as a child. In the early days, there was only the original - milk caramel flavour. Now there are different flavours such as green tea matcha, red bean, vanilla, black seasame, etc., and it is available in Singapore too. Despite the many flavours available, my favourite remains the original - milk caramel as it is deeply entrenched as part of my childhood memory after all. :)
Milk Caramel (Source:

Milk Vanilla is not too bad either. :)

Green "Guest"

A little green guest came to our place tonight. No, not the green kind from outer space lol.

Marieann found this little praying mantis and was gently carrying it around in her hand lol. Yes, my older daughter is not afraid of insects. :) In fact, she loves observing and studying them closely.

Sunday, 8 June 2014

In the evening, three babies created such a din in our estate with their cries.
Can you see them? 3 young hornbills in the tree
Three young hornbills were calling out, perhaps to get their mother's attention. But what a racket!

Saturday, 7 June 2014

Plenty of good movies out/ soon to be out.
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Disney's Maleficient
Edge of Tomorrow
How to Train your Dragon 2
Transformers: Age of Extinction
Which ones to see?! Time not enough lol.

Medical Check-up

Not really a fan of medical check-up with all that waiting, consultation, waiting, consultation, waiting for report, consultation, waiting, consultation . The waiting can be very exhausting. :(

June Holiday = PSLE Prep

I find it hard to believe that the June holiday has already started. Time seems to pass so fast this year. Marieann is attending the supplementary classes for P6 this entire week and attending study camp for next week. PSLE will be happening in 2 months and a week's time. :S

Duan Wu Jie's 立蛋

Today is Duan Wu Jie 2014 (端午节). Happy Duan Wu Jie. :)
I found out today that Singaporeans (both young and old) have not heard of one cultural/ traditional activity that is pretty popular with children in Taiwan and China. It is "Stand an Egg"  or 立蛋. My mother who is a Taiwanese introduced my brother and I to this activity when we were young. Now my girls are playing standing an egg at 12 noon on Duan Wu Jie, especially if they happen to be at home. If you are successful in standing an egg, you are supposed to be lucky for the year. :)
I am really surprised that hardly any Singaporeans know about this cultural/ traditional activity carried out on Duan Wu Jie. It is quite sad that Singaporean Chinese are losing cultural/ traditional knowledge. :(

Rain and Work

It was raining for the most part of today. Just as well. For I was stuck at home doing work for most part of today. :(
I really need a life! :(
