Day 5 Penang 2014: Free & Easy

It is our last day in Penang. We really took it free and easy with no itinerary to follow except for lunch as we were going to Jawi House, one of the restaurants that I have shortlisted.
As with yesterday, we slept in till 9am and only went for breakfast at 9:30am. Juliane decided to try the Asian selection for today's breakfast which was Asian Fried Rice, Marieann tried French Toast and I had Egg Florentine.
Our nails in the day light :)
After a leisurely-paced breakfast, the girls decided to have a game of chess in the reading area, exercising their brains lol. :P Since coming on this trip, they have been playing intellectual games such as chess, scrabble rather than watching tv. :) (Note to self: Buy them a nice chess set when we go home)
We walked over to 1st Avenue mall where we shopped at H&M. It was pretty fun as we could try out many outfits as there was no other customers in the fitting rooms! We were the first customers at 10:30am. :P This is the first time that my girls and I shopped at the same shop and we were able to give feedback to each other as we tried on the clothes lol.
Close to 11:30am, we took the CAT free shuttle to Armenian Street area as there are a couple of crafts shops and Jawi House in the vicinity.

Studio Howard: we spent 30 minutes there
We went to lunch at Jawi House around 12:15pm. 30 minutes later, the restaurant was crowded! We ordered Mains: Lentil Rice served with rose chicken and Jawi Laksa and Desserts: Jawi Pineapple, Almond and Coconut Tart and Red Velvet Galletes. The lentil rice was really fragrant and yummy and so was the laksa. I enjoyed the pineapple and coconut tart very much. It was really refreshing.
Found Jawi House under 3 minutes: my map reading skill is getting better haha :P
Absolutely refreshing: Pineapple, Almond and Coconut Tart
After a delicious lunch, we walked around the area and took in the sights which we would not normally see in Singapore. This time round, the girls didn't complain about walking haha. I think they are getting used to the walking. :P While taking in the sights, we also started walking back towards the hotel.
We found another street art! :)

Walking away
We made it back to the hotel at 3:45pm. The sky was pretty overcast at that point. The girls pled to have one last swim before going back to Singapore tomorrow. I relented.
While I had my afternoon tea at the cafe, I supervised my girls in the pool. However it started raining even before the girls were in the pool for 15 minutes. They were pretty upset to get out of the pool. However, they perked up when they realised there was afternoon tea available. Greedy kids lol. :P
A simple afternoon tea (girls in the pool)
The girls having some tea too
The girls went back to the room first while I finished my tea :)
I spent the rest of the afternoon packing our luggage while the girls either played chess or read their books. I bought extra luggage space for our return trip so I have 25kg to play with lol. :P
Our shopping for today - something for everyone! :)
At 6:30pm, Juliane and I went out in the rain to buy dinner from the street food stalls in the next street (Lebuh Presgrave) while Marieann waited at the hotel for us. We bought fried koay teow with duck egg (again lol), lor bak, chicken satay and hokkien mee. Another satisfying meal! :)
Close to 9pm, we left our room to go to the reading area. Why? For close to 1.5 hours, the girls were actually waiting for the turn-down service. However nothing happened. The girls then deduced that Norlan, the staff who was in charge of turn down service, is like Santas Claus. He won't appear unless we are out of our room! So the girls chased me out of the room to go with them to the reading area where they played another game of chess lol. 15 minutes later when we returned to our room, we saw our good night snack! :) Sweet! :P The girls also had an extra surprise - jigsaw puzzles. :)

12 Nov 14 turn down snack: Coconut Candy and puzzles for the girls
A bit more packing before I sleep, trying to pack as much as I can into the check-in luggage so that we can leave some space in our carry-on luggage for last minute shopping at the airport haha. :P
Good night! Our last night in Penang. :(
